Something for everyone at the Arts Canterbury Art Show

Russley Events

An extensive range of art will be on display at the annual Arts Canterbury Art Show at The Russley Village next month. The event, held 11-12 May, will exhibit the work of 40 local artists – from beautiful paintings, drawings and other unique pieces, to jewellery, pottery and glass creations. The connection between Arts Canterbury and The Russley Village began in 2019, when the first Arts Canterbury Art Show at the Village was held. Arts Canterbury had held several similar exhibitions at another retirement village, and the administrator at the time, Vivienne Davison – a Russley Village resident – came up with the idea.

Former Russley Village manager, Wayne Thompson, was happy to host an exhibition at the Village and it was an enormous success. Both the residents and staff really enjoyed it, as well as the artists, says Arts Canterbury Chairperson and Exhibitions Coordinator, Mandy Palmer. “It has become a highly anticipated event.”

One of the regular artists, Sarah Beal, says The Russley Village is one of her favourite venues to exhibit her art. “It's a gorgeous place. The residents and the staff are all really lovely and supportive. The residents have a better social life than me! Maybe one day I will need to downsize my art supplies...”

Arts Canterbury is an incorporated charitable organisation managed by artists for artists. Membership is currently made up of artists from emerging and hobby artists right through to full time professional artists, as well as galleries, community art groups and art related businesses.

Arts Canterbury's mission is to foster appreciation of the visual arts in Canterbury and provide support to artists who create, by through exhibition opportunities, workshops, social outings and support for all of its members.
