A culinary oasis
The Grand Opening of the The Russley Village Homestead on Friday 9 December 2016 was like the facility itself – elegant and engaging.
With the former Prime Minister John Key and fellow dignitaries in attendance to celebrate the significant milestone, there was no doubt in anyone’s minds that this was a truly special occasion.
At the heart of the homestead resides ABODE Café & Brasserie, a culinary delight that combines fresh, fulsome and creative fare with customer service that is second-to-none. Inspired by traditional recipes with a contemporary twist, the menu is flexible, and caters for different tastes and preferences. There are quintessential Kiwi dishes including hearty Shepherd’s Pie and a flavoursome range of soups, with some international culinary options on offer too.
The cherry on top is the “Abode to Go” menu launched earlier this year meaning residents can now enjoy delicious meals in the privacy of their own home.
The outstanding and conscientious team is led by Chef Ganesh Kesavan and Maitre’D Rocio Del Valle Garcia. With a Degree in International Protocol, Rocio has worked in the hospitality industry for a decade and is relishing the opportunity to be in such a dynamic role.
“I am very happy here because the residents are so happy! I am learning a lot about them and we have a very good relationship. Likewise, the team relationship at ABODE is excellent. We enjoy a very professional ambience and it is a relaxing and quiet environment.
“My favourite part of the role is when the residents have been away travelling and come back with stories to share.”
Chef Ganesh enjoys a sole charge position where he oversees preparation, cooking and administration – a multifaceted role that he thrives in. “I love the variety of work at ABODE. I enjoy being able to prepare lots of different dishes as well as bespoke menus for the different resident activities or groups that like to have their own private function dinners here.
“The quality of the food is equal to or more than five star standards. My main motto is to create beautiful food that looks and tastes amazing. The best part about this role is working with the team. Everyone helps each other.”
ABODE joins an already very generous offering at the homestead, which hosts the Lancaster Lounge – an intimate lounge bar setting, and The Cinema – a bespoke entertainment precinct.
